From the recording The Balance EP
The EP closes with its most vulnerable moment. Written from the perspective of Emma Morley from David Nicholls’ One Day, the song doubles as a reflection on Ellie’s own past relationships. Built around a persistent piano line and swelling harmonies, it charts the heartbreak of loving someone who cannot love you fully. Emma’s desperate plea - “Who will take me home?” - is answered by her own realisation: “You’ll fall apart again.” The final calm chord lands like a breath after emotional exhaustion.
Lyrics
Bleary eyed in the dead of night
Rose tint fades in the morning light
Smell of you and it feels like coming home
Hold your breath and close your eyes
You've heard those whispers a hundred times
You drop my hand, so I will drop the veil
Who will take me home?
Who will take me home?
Who will take me home?
Who will take me home?
Footprints in the frosty grass
Dog ends and broken glass
Called your name, but you just passed me by
Folded pages in your book
When do I get a second look?
Walked away but you just took and took
Who will take me home?
Who will take me home?
Who will take me home?
Who will take me home?
You'll fall apart again
Over now
